Product Evolution: list of deprecated features

To propose the best to our customers, your IoT platform Live Objects is updated frequently. As a matter of fact, some legacy features can't be supported anymore. This page aims to summarize all the information regarding deprecated features.

Useful definitions regarding our depreciation policy:

Deprecated features: the feature is still available on Live Objects product but marked as deprecated in all documents (developer guide, swagger, web portal…). If you start using the product, we strongly recommend to use the last available features. Also, Live Objects will not provide any support on the deprecated features.

End Of Life: the feature will be stopped. If you use it, you should have moved to a new feature replacing the legacy one. Depending of the situation and the feature, a breaking change and/or a cut of service may appear.

The time between deprecated and the end of life is not fixed but is determinate after a deep usage analysis regarding all the product. Most of the time, this “between” time is > 1 year.

MQTT Bridge mode

DeprecatedEnd Of Life

MQTT Bridge mode is a legacy mode, mostly used to retreive data from Live Objects to your business application.
This mode is replaced by two modes: “application” and “external connector”.

Please find more information regarding these two modes in our developer guide: application mode and external connector mode. Don’t hesitate to watch our video on YouTube explaining how to use the application mode.

Binding rules

DeprecatedEnd Of Life

Binding rules were used to publish data into FIFOs. It is very relevant to prevent data loss. But is was quite complicated to understand how to use it. From 2019 October, the routing feature is available.
This feature allows you to route dataMessage or events (deviceCreated, commandStatus…) to a FIFO or using httpPush to forward to your business application. This feature must be used to replace the legacy binding rules.

MQTT & http non-secured forbidden and TLS< 1.2

DeprecatedEnd Of Life
2020-07 2021-12-31

Helping you to ensure end to end security of your IoT services is our main concern. Therefore Live Objects is upgrading its interfaces access policy. According to this point, Live Objects policy will be:

  • TLS 1.2 or higher for all our endpoints (MQTTS, https, Web socket TLS).
  • MQTT (with or without web-socket) non-secure forbidden except for MQTT “device” mode*

It will not be possible to use a non-secured connection after the End Of Life date. You can read the dedicated communication in our blog.

Statistics V0 REST API

DeprecatedEnd Of Life
2019-012021-06-30

The previous Statistics http endpoint was useful to interconnect an IT billing system. The JSON response has a complicated format and is hard to use. Also, some metrics are now irrelevant due to platform evolution.

A new “accounting” endpoint is available with a simpler format and relevant KPI for accounting/billing purpose. We don’t recommend to use this endpoint to plug a BI system to perform an account analysis. If you have such a need, let us know it and we will try to find the best solution.

SMS V0 REST API

DeprecatedEnd Of Life
2019-082021-02-28

As a multi-connectivity plateform Live Objects aim to provide APIs for unified Device and Connectivity Management and Command Operations. Legacy SMS V0 REST API for device management and commands are now irrelevant.

New endpoints for Device Inventory Management and Command Operations are available to help you manage your devices regardless of the connectivity.

LoRa V0 REST API
